On Dog Days of Summer
Hello my darlings!
Were dog days of summer created so that our slow-moving human companions invent air conditioning? I say, yes! So much of human progress has been entirely canine driven. Take space travel for example - canines went into space before Yuri Gagarin and Neil Armstrong were even in the picture. And I am pretty sure a canine will be the first to touch down on Mars, even though it might be a candroid powered by a tiniest of solar batteries. But I digress! The dog days of summer and air conditioning are on my mind because we (and most of our neighbors) lost power after the tropical storm Isaia hurried through Connecticut. Let me tell you, it was SWELTERING! Mama, daddy and I camped out in the basement and I got to spoon with Mama which was lovely as I am generally not allowed on the bed. My humans were distressed as they were not able to talk to their little electronic pets - phones and laptops. And they seem to be very upset with someone called Eva Sauce. Who is that Eva? I do not think I like her - I am deciding whether I should growl or just give her a cold shoulder when she comes by our house. The cold shoulder might be best - humans hate being ignored and so do I. Lack of attention is the worst sort of punishment which is what Mama resorts to if I chew on her carpets (I really don’t anymore).
Mama told me she spoke with the First Selectman’s office and they told her that power would take 3-5 days to restore... I know Mama and Daddy are anxious for this to happen before the next heat wave but I do hope I could spoon with Mama for a few more nights! I will keep you updated on my snuggle status!
Unabashedly yours,
JT
